Delhi: The Election Commission has responded to allegations made by Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) convener Arvind Kejriwal, accusing the Haryana government of dumping industrial waste into the Yamuna river. Kejriwal and Delhi Chief Minister Atishi recently claimed that the ammonium levels in the Yamuna river, which flows from Haryana to Delhi, were six times higher than normal. AAP has raised concerns that the pollution is being deliberately caused, which could lead to serious health problems for Delhi’s residents.

The AAP government in Delhi has termed the high levels of ammonia in the Yamuna as a major threat to public health. Arvind Kejriwal went so far as to accuse the Haryana government of “trying to kill people” by contaminating the river with industrial waste, calling the pollution an act of “water terrorism.”

In response, the Election Commission has asked AAP to provide solid evidence to back up these claims. A letter from the EC requested that AAP submit proof by Wednesday night (January 29), giving them an 8-hour window to do so. Additionally, the Commission has instructed the Haryana government to submit a factual report on the ammonia levels by January 28.

The Delhi Assembly elections are set for February 5, with the vote counting scheduled for February 8.
