Hyderabad: Commissioner Ranganath announced that HYDRA (Hyderabad Urban Development and Regulatory Authority) has been granted full authority to issue notices and take action against illegal constructions and unauthorized buildings in the city. This new power was granted through an order by the Municipal Administration Department, which transferred powers under the GHMC Act to HYDRA.

In his statement, Commissioner Ranganath clarified that HYDRA now has the authority to not only issue notices but also demolish unauthorized structures and seize properties when necessary. The amendment to the GHMC Act has strengthened HYDRA, making it more effective in protecting government properties and tackling illegal encroachments.

HYDRA will now operate under the Municipal Act in areas governed by the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) and 27 municipalities within the Outer Ring Road (ORR). This move signals a more aggressive approach towards illegal structures in the city.

However, HYDRA’s operations will respect court orders, particularly those that mandate a status quo for certain buildings. The authority is currently focusing on demolishing structures where prior orders were issued, while avoiding any buildings under court protection.
