The Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA) has achieved a significant milestone by reclaiming 923 acres of government land valued at approximately ₹50,000 crore. This extensive operation, announced by Commissioner A.V. Ranganath, involved the removal of 581 illegal encroachments, including unauthorized constructions by influential individuals, with a focus on safeguarding lakes, nalas, and public land for future generations.
In a notable action on Sunday, HYDRAA recovered 317 acres belonging to the Telangana Finance Corporation between Gajularamaram and Pragatinagar, targeting encroachments affecting public infrastructure and natural resources.

As part of its flood preparedness initiatives, the agency has undertaken comprehensive measures, including cleaning over 24,000 catchpits, removing 3,193 nala encroachments, and clearing more than 2,000 truckloads of silt. Notably, desilting operations near the Ameerpet Metro station have effectively prevented waterlogging during heavy rains.
HYDRAA is also actively engaged in lake restoration efforts, with six lakes currently under
revitalization. These restoration projects have expanded the combined area of the lakes from 105 to 180 acres following encroachment clearance, aiming to reduce flood risks and protect the environment.
Commissioner Ranganath emphasized the agency’s commitment to preserving Hyderabad’s natural resources and infrastructure, stating, “Our focus is on protecting lakes, nalas, and public land. These efforts may seem tough now, but they will benefit the city’s future generations.”
