Storm Alert Across India: IMD Predicts Rain, Hail and Strong Winds in Several States
India is preparing for unstable weather over the next few days as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issues widespread warnings for rain, thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds across large parts of the country. The weather department has cautioned that several regions should stay alert to rapidly changing conditions, especially during afternoon and evening hours.

According to the IMD’s latest forecast, isolated to scattered rain and thunderstorms are very likely across both northern and southern India. Weather systems moving across the region may trigger hailstorms at isolated locations, along with gusty winds reaching up to 40 km/h in parts of the plains.
In the hilly states, including Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand, the weather agency has also predicted isolated snowfall and rainfall, adding another dimension to the volatile weather pattern.
The IMD advisory highlights that thunderstorm activity accompanied by lightning will be particularly active over central and eastern India, impacting states such as Telangana, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, West Bengal and Jharkhand. Rainfall coupled with strong winds and lightning strikes can create hazardous conditions, especially for outdoor activities and farming sectors.
Residents in affected areas are urged to follow local weather updates, take precautions against lightning and high winds, and avoid travel during peak storm periods. Authorities in some states have already activated response mechanisms to ensure public safety.
With the monsoon season still some weeks away, these weather systems underline the highly dynamic nature of India’s transitional seasonal weather, driven by shifting wind patterns and atmospheric disturbances.
