India Takes Pakistan to Task at the United Nations

In a firm and unequivocal response at the United Nations Security Council on Monday, India’s Permanent Representative, Parvathaneni Harish, slammed Pakistan over its portrayal of Operation Sindoor, calling Islamabad’s narrative “false and self-serving” and part of a broader attempt to harm India’s reputation on the global stage.

Addressing the council, Harish accused Pakistan of spreading misinformation and using terrorism as a tool of state policy. He described Pakistan’s comments on Operation Sindoor — India’s military action in May 2025 targeting terrorist infrastructure — as deliberate distortions aimed at detracting from Pakistan’s own failures.

India reiterated that Pakistan continued threats until May 9, at which point Islamabad itself reached out to de-escalate tensions, underscoring that its military action had compelled the neighbour to seek a halt in hostilities. During the address, Harish also reaffirmed India’s position that Pakistan has no standing to comment on internal Indian matters such as Jammu & Kashmir, which he reiterated remains an integral part of India.

Besides rebutting the specific Operation Sindoor claims, India accused Pakistan of violating the spirit of longstanding agreements like the Indus Waters Treaty, asserting that sustained cross-border terrorism from Pakistan’s territory undermines any meaningful cooperation. Harish urged the international community to recognise the true nature of Pakistan’s actions and stressed that tolerance of terrorism cannot become “the new normal”.

The exchange marks yet another chapter in the ongoing diplomatic tensions between the two nuclear-armed neighbours at international forums, with India firmly rejecting Pakistan’s narrative while projecting its own security concerns with clarity and authority.
