Rahul Gandhi, the President of the Indian National Congress (INC,) on the 6th of March, held a meeting with H.D. Deve Gowda, the President of the Janata Dal (Secular) (JD[S],) in Karnataka.

Both the leaders conducted the meeting to discuss the seat sharing formula for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

Speaking about the mathematics of the seats, Deve Gowda demanded a total of 10 Lok Sabha seats out of 28 Lok Sabha seats in Karnataka.

Mr. Gowda addressed the media and said, “Gandhi discussed about seat sharing in Karnataka. This is the first such discussion between the two parties. There are 28 Lok Sabha seats in the state. Earlier, I had asked for 12. At the meeting, I requested Rahulji to give at least 10 seats to the JD[S.]”

However, the final decision regarding the seat sharing will be taken by Rahul Gandhi after a meeting with Danish Ali, the National General Secretary of the JD[S,] and K.C. Venugopal, the General Secretary of the All Indian Congress Committee in Karnataka.

The official announcement regarding the seat sharing will be declared by the 10th of March.

The JD[S] and the INC called for an alliance to fight against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and remove the BJP as the ruling Government of India, after winning the Lok Sabha elections.

The State will contest a total of 28 Lok Sabha seats in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, scheduled between April and May 2019.

The major parties contesting are the INC and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP.)
