The Model Code of Conduct (MCC) violation complaint lodged against Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi is missing from the official website of the Election Commission of India (ECI.)

Mahendra Singh, a resident of Kolkata, on the 9th of April, filed a complaint against PM Modi for violating the MCC during a public rally in Latur district, Maharashtra.

According to the complaint, Mr. Modi, during the rally, asked for votes in favour of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and mentioned the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawans who died in the Pulwama terror attack.

Mr. Modi addressed the public and urged them to dedicate their votes to the ‘Pulwama martyrs.’ This is not the first time the Modi led BJP used the Pulwama attack and the Balakot strike as a way to gain votes.

However, the ECI did not take any action against Mr. Modi as the matter did not reach the ECI from the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Maharashtra.

The ECI, on the 11th of April, asked Jageshwar Swaroop Saharia, the CEO of Maharashtra, to submit a detailed report about the Latur rally.

According to Mr. Saharia, the report was submitted and due to a glitch on the website, it marked the complaint as ‘resolved’ instead of ‘details forwarded to Election Commission headquarters.’

Mr. Singh filed the complaint on the website, which later allows you to check the progress of the complaint. However, the website is displaying the complaint against Modi as ‘resolved.’

On the 24th of April, the ECI said, “Explanation of the concerned officer has been called through CEO Maharashtra by 1:00 P.M., tomorrow (the 25th of April.)”

The ECI also said, it will soon take action against Mr. Modi for using the Pulwama terror attack and the death of the CRPF jawans as a weapon for gaining votes.

The ECI received several complaints against the BJP for using the Pulwama terror attack as a trump card during the public rallies for the Lok Sabha elections.

Though the ECI warned the Modi led Government not to use the Pulwama incident, the BJP has used the terror attack to influence voters across India.

The Lok Sabha elections started on the 11th of April and will continue till the 19th of May.
