Mamata Banerjee, the Chief Minister of West Bengal, on the 29th of May, refused to attend Narendra Modi’s oath taking ceremony.

Ms. Banerjee, the President of the Trinamool Congress (TMC,) took to Twitter and posted a tweet about the same.

According to Ms. Banerjee’s tweet, the decision came after the news that the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) sent special invites to the family of 50 BJP leaders who were killed in West Bengal during the last 6 years.

Amit Shah, the President of the BJP, as well as Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on the 28th of May, conducted a meeting, following which, they decided to invite the families of the BJP workers.

According to the BJP, approximately 50 BJP workers were killed in West Bengal during the leadership of the Mamata Banerjee led TMC.

The invites to the BJP workers’ families are said to be a political message to the TMC and to the families. The BJP said, the Party will stand by those who lost their lives due to the “violence by Trinamool Congress workers.”

Ms. Banerjee, in her tweet, wrote, though she accepted the constitutional invite to the Prime Minister’s oath taking ceremony, she will not attend the event.

Narendra Modi will be sworn in as the Prime Minister of India on the 30th of May, at 7:00 P.M., in Delhi.

Stay tuned for further updates.
