Maoists from Bastar South sub zonal Bureau of the Communist Party of India passed out pamphlets threatening badminton star Saina Nehwal and superstar actor Akshay Kumar. The reason for the threat being Akshay and Saina extended their help to the families of the martyred soldiers from the Sukma attack.

12 Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) were killed in an encounter with the Maoist forces. The leaflet not only threatened the celebrities but also urged them to instead help the tribals. The pamphlets were passed on in Hindi and regional Gondi languages.

The message was circulated as part of the week long celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Naxalite movement.

A part of the message said, “We condemn the financial assistance given to the families of CRPF jawans killed in PLGA attacks. We appeal to famous figures, film actors, sports persons and celebrities to stand with the revolution and poor people. Stand against police atrocities and human rights violations.”

Special Director General, D.M. Awasthi in Chattisgarh said, “Everyone appreciates what the two celebrities did for the martyrs and it is a nationalist approach. The remarks of Maoists only exposes their mentality.”

On the 16 of March, 12 CRPF soldiers lost their lives in a tragic encounter with the Naxals. Akshay Kumar donated Rs. 9 lakhs to each of the soldier’s families while Saina Nehwal gave each family Rs. 50,000.

Akshay Kumar has also launched an app called ‘Bharat Ke Veer’ that allows direct digital transfer of money from generous donors to the slain solider’s families.
