One of the founding leaders of the Trinamool Congress (TMC) Mukul Roy officially joined the BJP party on Friday evening. He was inducted into the party at the BJP headquarters in Delhi. The Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad appreciated Mukul, “His experience will benefit us surely, I believe.”
Once inducted, Roy addressed the media and said, “Today I have joined the BJP and it is my proud privilege to work under PM Modi.”
Mukul Roy quit the TMC last month after a scuffle with West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee (TMC Leader.) When Mukul resigned, he said party members, “should be comrades and not servants.”
Some questioned Roy’s induction due to the Saradha scam. Roy received a bad name after his alleged involvement in the multi billion dollar Saradha chit fund scam. The BJP prides itself for its fight against corruption and yet appoints people with tainted pasts?
One of the senior leaders from the BJP came to Roy’s rescue and said, “No one has the political shrewdness and networking on the ground like Mukul Roy in West Bengal. His knowledge till the booth level is unique. He will be like Himanta Biswa Sarma in Assam. He has the ability to make the party stronger and bring electoral gains.” Himanta Biswa Sarma is a vital member of BJP known for useful strategising in the Northeast.
Mukul Roy spoke of his plans, . “I will work for restoration of democracy in Bengal, that will be my first task. I am a national level politician, I will try to see that people in Bengal can at least vote according to their choice. If people can cast their votes in panchayat polls, the BJP will wrest power from the TMC in least in 5 zila parishads (sic.)”
Roy further added, “I am an organisational man. People of Bengal have turned against the TMC government. I am sure that in the Lok Sabha polls in 2019 and Assembly elections in 2021, the BJP will win Bengal.”
Mukul’s deep stronghold inside TMC must be the reason why BJP inducted him instead of encouraging him to set up his own outfit.
