Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the White House for an official meeting with President Donald Trump. The two leaders stood on the same ground on terrorism and sent a strong message to Pakistan about not using their territory for launching cross border terror.
Narendra Modi and Donald Trump joined hands to eliminate terrorism and safe havens of the terrorists.
Modi addressed the issue in a joint conference with Trump, “Eliminating terrorism is among the topmost priorities for us.”
A joint statement was released by the two leaders that called out Pakistan to “expeditiously bring to justice the perpetrators of the 26/11 Mumbai, Pathankot attacks and other cross-border terrorist attacks perpetrated by Pakistan based groups.”
The Prime Minister further added, “We talked about terrorism, extremism, and radicalization and agreed to cooperate on this. Fighting terrorism and doing away with the safe shelters, sanctuaries and safe havens will be an important part of our cooperation.”
Donald Trump spoke about their conversation, “The security partnership between the US and India is incredibly important. Both our nations have been struck by the evils of terrorism and we are both determined to destroy terrorist organizations and the radical ideology that drives them. We will destroy radical Islamic terrorism.”
Narendra Modi and Donald Trump also addressed topics on trade, the instability in Afghanistan, bilateral cooperation, and security.
This was the first official meeting and conversation between the two leaders and Modi described it as an “important page in the history of India-U.S. relationship.”
Modi also said, “Technology, innovation and knowledge economy are also areas we’re actively looking at.”
Trump said, “We’re also looking forward to exporting more American energy to India as your economy grows, including major long term contracts to purchase American natural gas, which is right now being negotiated, and we will sign them. Trying to get the price up a little bit.”
Trump also spoke about his concern about North Korea, “The North Korean regime is causing tremendous problems and is something that has to be dealt with, and probably dealt with rapidly.”
Donald Trump also thanked Narendra Modi for joining in to apply a new sanctions against Pyongyang.
The President also accepted Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s invitation to visit India.
