Amaravati: Polling for the election of Finance Committee members, including the Public Accounts Committee (PAC), Public Undertakings Committee (PUC), and Estimates Committee, was conducted on Friday in the Assembly Committee Hall. This election marked a rare occurrence, held for the first time in six decades due to a contest triggered by Vaikapa’s nominations.

Despite lacking sufficient numbers in the Assembly, YSRCP, led by Jagan Mohan Reddy, nominated Peddireddy Ramachandra Reddy for the PAC chairmanship. However, their efforts fell short, leading to the formal election of NDA-backed candidates. Minister Nara Lokesh directly supervised the polling, ensuring smooth proceedings.

Out of 164 NDA coalition members, 163 participated in the voting, including Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, Speaker Ayyannapatra, and Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan. YSRCP members, citing unfavorable conditions, boycotted the election after initially filing nominations.

The PAC chairmanship, traditionally held by the opposition, was a focal point of contention. Peddireddy, nominated for the role, abstained from voting, signaling a major setback for Vaikapa.

NDA’s candidates Pulaparthi Ramanjaneyulu, V. Jogeswara Rao, and Koona Ravikumar were elected as chairpersons of PAC, PUC, and Estimates Committee, respectively. They later met with CM Chandrababu Naidu to discuss their new responsibilities.
