Prem Singh Tamang (also known as P.S. Golay,) the President of the Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Sikkim, on the 27th of May.
P.S. Golay took the oath as the CM in the presence of the SKM leaders and Ganga Prasad, the Governor of Sikkim. The oath taking ceremony began at 10:00 A.M., and was held at the Paljor Stadium inSikkim.
Although Golay did not take part in the Assembly elections, he devoted his time to campaign for the SKM. Golay’s party won the seat by securing a majority of seats (17 out of 34) in the Sikkim Assembly elections.
Before taking the oath, Golay sought advice from his legal advisors. Before he contested, Golay was in prison for a year based on corruption charges made against im in the year 2016.
After seeking legal opinion from the legal advisors, Mr. Golay, on the 25th of May, called the Governor of the State and formally laid claim to the CM seat.
Mr. Golay took the oath as the CM with some newly elected Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs.)
