After the school bus attack in Gurgaon by a mob protesting the release of Padmaavat most school decided to close. Many schools especially top schools in Gurgaon announced holidays for a week as they did not want to risk the lives of the students.
Waves of outrage came after a video released showing children crouched and scared inside a GD Goenka World School bus. The bus was attacked by an angry mob protesting Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s film Padmaavat. Near 60 goons attacked the school bus with bamboo sticks and stones.
At around 3 P.M., the school bus was transporting children to their homes when the riot began. The bus driver decided to ignore the mob and maneuvered the bus to safety. The children were frightened as the mob set a state run bus on fire right in front of the students.
A teacher explained, “If they can attack school buses and Haryana roadways buses openly despite prohibitory orders and tight security arrangements of the Gurgaon Police, we cannot take a chance.”
Chief Minister of Delhi Arvind Kejriwal said the attack was utterly shameful. The CM went on to attack the BJP Government in a tweet. He said, “More disgusting is the complicity of those governments who are allowing it through their inaction.”
Congress President Rahul Gandhi also reacted to the incident and said, “There will never be a cause big enough to justify violence against children… The BJP’s use of hatred and violence is setting our entire country on fire.”
Padmaavat hit the big screen today but the fringe group Karni Sena has vowed to block the film from releasing. The group is protesting the film on grounds that the film portrays queen Padmini in a bad light. The film stars Deepika Padukone, Shahid Kapoor and Ranveer Singh.
