PM Modi, Leaders Unite to Honour Ambedkar — 70th Mahaparinirvan Diwas at Parliament

On Saturday morning, key national leaders gathered at the Parliament House in New Delhi to honour the 70th death anniversary of B. R. Ambedkar — the architect of India’s Constitution. The commemorative event, organised by the Dr. Ambedkar Foundation (DAF) under the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, began with a solemn floral tribute at the “Prerna Sthal” near Ambedkar’s life-size statue.

The ceremony witnessed the presence of dignitaries including President Droupadi Murmu, Vice-President C. P. Radhakrishnan, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, and senior members of Parliament from across party lines.

In a message shared on X (formerly Twitter), Prime Minister Modi remembered Ambedkar’s “visionary leadership and unwavering commitment to justice, equality and constitutionalism”, saying these continue to guide India’s national journey. He urged citizens to uphold human dignity and democratic values as the nation advances toward a “Viksit Bharat”.

Following the VIP session, the event was opened to the public, allowing thousands of citizens to pay their respects at the Parliament House Lawn. Buddhist monks conducted chanting rituals, and DAF arranged facilities — including a storage stall for visitors’ belongings — to manage the large turnout.

As the nation paused to reflect this Mahaparinirvan Diwas, the tribute served as a reminder of Ambedkar’s enduring legacy — his fight for equality and justice remains a beacon for generations striving to uphold the principles enshrined in India’s Constitution.
