Three police personnel at Jal Nagar police station in Vijayapura, Karanataka were suspended for allegedly consuming alcohol while on duty.
The accused identified as Assistant Sub Inspector S.S. Malegaon and Constable I.Y. Soddi were drinking as woman Constable Padma Rathod was serving the two.
On Wednesday, the three policemen were suspended when a television channel reported the news. The incident had happened on May 14th.
A news channel on Wednesday aired a video of the three police personnel inside the police station drinking alcohol. The video showed the female constable Padma serving alcohol to the other two.
SP Kuldeep Kumar spoke to a news channel and said, “A retired ASI’s son was getting married and there was a function at a choultry near the police station. They claimed they were having food on the police station premises. We are yet to confirm if the men were having liquor.”
The three police personnel were questioned but denied the allegations and argue that it was rasam and sambar in the bottles.
Karnataka Rakshana Vedike activists started to protest at the police station demanding the SP take immediate action against the policemen. The SP then made a visit to the police station and questioned the accused and suspended them.
The SP reported, “A few said it was sambar and others claimed it was rasam. But there was indiscipline on the part of the police force as they cannot party in the police station premise (sic.) The dress code was not being followed too. One is seen without a shirt and the other is in mufti on duty.”
