Jamnagar: Gujarat is grappling with severe flooding caused by heavy rains, leading to widespread submersion of residential areas. The situation has escalated to a crisis as residents face significant hardships due to submerged homes and lack of immediate relief.

The situation reached a boiling point when a young man named Vipul, frustrated by the authorities’ inaction, drank phenol in protest. Vipul had previously appealed to District Development Officer (DDO) Bhambi for temporary accommodation and food but received no response. His drastic measure was a desperate attempt to draw attention to the dire situation. Vipul was promptly rushed to the hospital and treated for his actions.

The floods have overwhelmed Jamnagar, with many areas completely submerged. Victims have repeatedly complained to the District Panchayat, yet basic needs remain unmet. In response to the crisis, Jamnagar Collector Bhavin Pandya reported that the dams are overflowing due to the incessant rains. Relief operations are underway with the participation of the Army, NDRF, and other agencies, rescuing around 20,000 people and providing them with food and medical aid in relief camps.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has spoken with Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, offering assurance of central support in managing the crisis.
