Senior Al-Qaeda leader killed in US Drone Strike

Farouq al-Qahtani, a senior leader of Al-Qaeda, was killed in a ‘precision strike’ carried out by the U.S. military last month on 23rd of October, said the Pentagon spokesperson Peter Cook.

This successful strike is another example of U.S., operations to degrade international terrorist networks and target terrorist leaders who seek to attack the U.S., homeland, our interests and our allies abroad,” Cook said in a statement. The strike that was operated over Kunar in Afghanistan was made with multiple Hellfire missiles that killed 15 insurgents.

Unfortunately, another right hand man of the Al-Qaeda leader, Bilal-al-Utabi had to be targeted in a separate strike the consequence of which is yet to be revealed by the government. Nevertheless, the defeat of one of the high ranking officials of the organization has certainly left this radical group frazzled.

The Pentagon had been aggressively hunting for Qahtani for four years now as he had operated in Afghanistan since at least 2009 and led an al-Qaida battalion since at least mid-2010. Apart from this he was also known to having long standing ties with Osama Bin Laden up until his death in 2011.

The insurgent attack has brought back hopes to the global citizens that the spread of such drastic dimensioned institutions can be contained and perhaps, this is a step in a direction to bring down another evildoer of ISIS.
