Hyderabad: The Telangana government has decided to assess the potential impact of the Polavaram project on the state, particularly concerning the historic Bhadrachalam temple. Chief Minister Revanth Reddy directed officials to collaborate with IIT Hyderabad for a comprehensive study, aiming to submit a detailed report within a month.
A special officer will be appointed to coordinate with the IIT Hyderabad team. The study will focus on the risks posed to the Bhadrachalam temple, which faced severe flooding in 2022 when 27 lakh cusecs of water inundated the area.
During the meeting, officials informed the Chief Minister about the Andhra Pradesh government’s new Banakacharla project, which reportedly lacks necessary permissions. CM Revanth Reddy emphasized the need to raise Telangana’s objections with the Andhra Pradesh Chief Secretary. If required, he instructed officials to escalate the issue to the Godavari Board and the Central Hydropower Department through formal letters.
The initiative underscores Telangana’s proactive approach to safeguarding its historical and cultural landmarks while addressing concerns related to inter-state water projects.
