Hyderabad: Union Minister Kishan Reddy emphasized the importance of preserving the Telugu language by speaking, writing, and integrating it into daily life. Addressing the ongoing Telugu Mahasabhas in Hyderabad, the minister highlighted the role of digital advancements in safeguarding the language for future generations.
Reddy urged parents to read children’s literature with their kids daily and stressed the need to digitize Telugu content to make it accessible to future generations. He praised the growing number of Telugu articles on platforms like Wikipedia and the availability of audio stories, calling it a positive step towards preserving the language.
“Telugu must be safeguarded before it fades away. It should be promoted as a medium of instruction, and government and official affairs should be conducted in Telugu. With only 30% of the spoken language being Telugu and 70% dominated by English, the decline is evident,” Reddy said. He encouraged implementing the Central government’s new education policy, which promotes mother-tongue education at the foundational level, and advocated for conducting court proceedings in Telugu.
Reddy called for new technologies and programs to be developed in the mother tongue, ensuring Telugu remains relevant in the digital era.
