Shreyas Iyer Cleared for India Return After Passing BCCI Fitness Tests
Indian cricket got a timely boost on Wednesday as the BCCI declared senior batter Shreyas Iyer fully fit, clearing all fitness concerns ahead of India’s upcoming ODI series against New Zealand.

The 31-year-old, who has been sidelined since suffering a spleen injury in October 2025, cleared the final medical assessments conducted by the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence. His return had been conditional on proving his readiness during competitive cricket, and Iyer delivered with a strong domestic performance in the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy — scoring a fluent 82 off 53 for Mumbai without any signs of discomfort.
This development allows Iyer to re-join the national ODI squad just days before India’s first match against New Zealand on January 11, giving the team a significant reinforcement in the middle order. As vice-captain in the 50-over format, his leadership and batting experience add depth and balance — qualities India has keenly missed in his absence.
During his layoff, India had tested other options at No. 4, including Ruturaj Gaikwad, who seized the opportunity with notable success. With Iyer’s return, team management faces renewed decisions on batting combinations.
Iyer’s fitness clearance also brings stability to India’s plans in the lead-up to major ICC events later this season. His ability to anchor innings and accelerate when needed makes him one of India’s most valuable ODI assets. Fans and selectors alike will be eager to see how swiftly he regains his top form on the international stage.
