Sonia Gandhi, the Chairperson of the All India Congress Committee (AICC) and the Member of Parliament (MP) of Raebareli, on the 2nd of July, raised the issue of the privatization of railway units.

Ms. Gandhi, during the Lok Sabha session, said, the Government of India is trying to corporatize the railway and coach factory in Raebareli and she is against this.

Sonia Gandhi said, “The ‘company-karan (corporatization)’ of six railway units will render thousands of railway employees jobless.” She further said, “Public sector undertakings which are temples of modern India are under threat. Their employees are not being given salaries on time. What is happening with BSNL, MTNL and HAL are not hidden from anyone.”

The issue was discussed in the Lok Sabha, however, Piyush Goyal, the Railway Minister of India, denied the plan and said, “No plan has been made for the privatization of Rajdhani/Shatabdi trains. There is no plan for privatization of Railways.”

Ms. Gandhi said, this act of Modi Government will leave thousands of railway employees jobless. She further asked why the oldest coach factory of the Country is being privatised and corporatised.

She concluded her speech by requesting the Government of India to protect the Modern Coach Factory in Raebareli.

Stay tuned for further updates about the Parliament session.
