A stampede at Elphinstone Station resulted in the death of 15 people and nearly 30 people are injured. The stampede occurred at a narrow foot over bridge in Mumbai. Nearly 200 police officers have been deployed to the station along with local medical teams.
It has been reported around 10:45 A.M., that a part of the foot over bridge collapsed due to the heavy rainfall and a short circuit might have caused the collapse.
Commuters have been complaining about this most crowded foot over bridge as being too narrow and could cause potential problems.

The death toll increased to 22 people among which was a fourth standard student and 33 people injured.
Railway Minister Piyush Goyal arrived at the station and announced Rs. 5 lakhs as ex gratia to the next of kin of the deceased. He also said Rs. 1 lakh will be given to the ones seriously injured and Rs. 50,000 for the ones with minor injuries.
