Delhi: The Supreme Court has expressed strong disapproval over the exclusion of MP Magunta Srinivasulu Reddy as an accused in the Delhi liquor case. During a hearing on Wednesday, Justice BR Gavai questioned the decision to not include Srinivasulu Reddy, despite his significant involvement, which the court noted is comparable to that of Kavitha, another key figure in the case.

“Is it your discretion to decide who gets included as an accused?” Justice Gavai asked, addressing the Additional Solicitor General (ASG) SV Raju, who represented the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). The judge criticized the selective inclusion of individuals in the case, pointing out that while Srinivasulu Reddy’s son was initially accused and later turned approver, Srinivasulu Reddy himself remains merely a witness.

The court noted that Srinivasulu Reddy had meetings with Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, who allegedly advised him to coordinate with Kavitha regarding changes to Delhi’s liquor policy. Justice Gavai questioned the fairness of the prosecution, emphasizing that all individuals involved should be treated equally under the law.

ASG Raju defended the investigation, stating that Kavitha had influenced the case, including pressuring a witness to retract his statement. However, Kavitha’s lawyer, Mukul Rohatgi, refuted these claims, asserting that her name was not mentioned by any accused before they turned approver.
