The Pakistani Taliban leader Mullah Fazlullah was killed in a U.S., airstrike in Afghanistan. On Friday, a senior Afghan Defense Ministry official confirmed the death of the leader. This sudden death is likely to ease tensions between the U.S., and Pakistan.
The U.S., Military in Washington reported a strike aimed at a senior militant figure. The strike was in the Eastern Afghan province of Kunar on the Pakistan border.
Fazlullah was Pakistan’s most wanted militant who was behind the 2014 school massacre that killed 132 children. A spokesman for the Afghan Defense Ministry Mohammad Radmanish said, “I confirm that Mullah Fazlullah, leader of the Pakistani Taliban, has been killed in a joint air operation in the border area of Marawera district of Kunar province.”
The airstrike was carried out by the U.S., forces at 9:00 A.M., on Thursday. The death of the Taliban leader should ease the tense relations between Washington and Islamabad.
