With the Election Commission of India (ECI) expected to soon announce the schedule for upcoming Telangana elections, state’s election machinery is quietly putting final touches on its preparedness, officials say. Though no official date has yet been declared, departments are active – ready to swing into action the moment notification comes.
Officers from the Chief Electoral Officer’s office in Telangana report that polling staff, including Booth Level Officers (BLOs), are being briefed about roles and revised processes under the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.

Key tasks under preparation include finalizing voter data, reconciling additions and deletions and ensuring updated electoral rolls reflect current residencies and demographic changes.
Multiple rounds of planning meetings have focused on logistics, staffing, training and communication with citizens.
The SIR carry-forward involves setting a qualifying date; in recent notices, the ECI has suggested 1 January 2026 as a reference point for many states outside Bihar.
Telangana election officials say they await formal orders but are ready to enforce whichever qualifying date the ECI fixes.
Meanwhile, legal oversight continues. Petitioners have approached the Supreme Court in some states challenging certain aspects of SIR implementation, but the court has underscored the ECI’s constitutional mandate to conduct electoral roll revision while committing to review claims of irregularity.
For citizens, the immediate takeaway: check that your current address and identity details are correct, ready to submit corrections once the SIR process begins.
Voter participation depends not just on voting but being properly registered — a task that begins now.
