Telangana’s Prohibition and Excise Department’s crackdown on drug dealing in Hyderabad continued as they arrested four more accused and seized 100 units of LSD.
Earlier reports revealed the main clientele of the peddlers were international school students and engineering college students in Hyderabad.
An investigating official reported, “Some of the students are in class 8 and 9. The students were spending up to Rs. 4,000 per week to purchase drugs.”
The excise department is analyzing the call data of the peddlers arrested on Monday to narrow down on their customers.
The excise department seized 35 grams of MDMA worth Rs. 1.4 lakhs and 700 LSD stamps worth Rs. 20 lakhs on Monday. This case opened up the disturbing truth of the drug trade in Hyderabad that involves Tollywood stars, school students, and MNC professionals.
After the crackdown, officials informed 20 prominent schools in the city to be cautious of students using high end drugs.
Director of Excise department’s Enforcement wing, Akun Sabharwal said, “Names of students were not mentioned in the message. We came to know they are going through a bad phase.”
Another official informed, “We are concentrating on victims for providing counseling, but those who are found to be suppliers cum victims, we are arresting them. The only solution to avoid drugs being so rampant among children is to nab the kingpins.”
A news channel revealed the extent of addiction among the youth reporting a school girl had sent the dealers nude pictures in exchange for the drugs.
The officials also reported that the key suspect has been identified as Kiran who has been using the Dark Web to buy and sell the drugs. The suspect has absconded and the officials are on the lookout.
The Dark Web is the dark side of the internet that can be accessed only through a special router. The cops are struggling to track down the drug trail as the Dark Web makes the users partially anonymous.
An official was quoted by a news channel, “They send the drug through courier agency which delivers the same at the address specified by the client. We cannot check each and every parcel or cover of courier agencies as LSD can be sent concealed in a paper wrap. Those supplying drugs would not readily jump at requests for delivery of narcotic substances. Unless they are introduced by a known person, they would not entertain anyone.”
