Telangana Municipal Election Results 2026: Congress Surges Ahead as Vote Counting Continues
Counting of votes in the 2026 Telangana municipal elections is underway across all 116 municipalities and seven municipal corporations, marking a decisive moment in the state’s local political landscape. Elections held on February 11 saw robust voter participation, with over 73% turnout, reflecting high civic enthusiasm in urban local body contests.
Early trends from the counting centers, which opened at 8 a.m. on Friday, indicate a strong showing for the Indian National Congress (INC). The party has taken a clear lead in a substantial number of wards, outpacing rivals Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in several key municipalities. Congress’s gains include commanding victories in places such as Sulthanabad and Haliya municipalities, where it has secured multiple wards outright.

BJP leaders have alleged discrepancies in the vote-counting process and said their representatives will approach senior police officials to formally raise the issue.
