High-Stakes Municipal Elections Underway in Telangana: Over 52 Lakh Voters Cast Their Ballots
Telangana’s urban landscape came alive on February 11, 2026, as more than 52 lakh voters headed to polling stations across the state to elect representatives in the crucial municipal elections. Authorities are conducting polling from 7 am to 5 pm across 123 urban local bodies, covering 116 municipalities and seven municipal corporations. The State Election Commission will announce the results on February 13.

The election sees 12,944 candidates vying for seats, with most contests shaping up as a three-cornered battle among the Indian National Congress, Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). In some local bodies, four-way fights involving regional players add further intrigue.
Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy cast his vote early in the day, urging citizens to exercise their democratic right. Voter turnout in many areas remained steady by midday, with some municipalities recording more than 60 % participation.
The State Election Commission has put in place extensive arrangements to ensure smooth conduct. Officials have installed webcasting facilities at over 8,100 polling stations to ensure transparency, while deploying more than 41,000 polling personnel across Telangana to manage the process efficiently. The state government has declared a public holiday in all polling areas to encourage higher voter turnout.
Security has been a priority, with police and administrative teams deployed in sensitive zones to maintain peace and prevent malpractice. Parties on the ground are campaigning vigorously, and local issues from water supply to urban infrastructure are expected to heavily influence voter choice.
As urban electorates give their verdict, political observers say these results could signal broader shifts in Telangana’s political dynamics ahead of forthcoming state and national elections.
