On Monday night, a 19 year old student was apprehended by the police after he fatally shot a Texas Tech University police officer at the campus police station.
The University officials issued an alert that reported the suspect was in custody and the campus lockdown order was lifted.
The suspect has been identified as Hollis Daniels by the Texas police.
The University spokesman Chris Cook explained how the incident unfolded. He said on Monday evening the campus police were making a student welfare check and they found drugs and drug paraphernalia in Daniels room. He was taken to the police station for a standard debriefing.
Cook went on to explain at the station the suspect then pulled out a gun and shot an officer in the head, killing him. Daniels then fled the station on foot but was later apprehended by the police.
Immediately as Daniels fled, the Texas Tech officials sent out a lockdown alert of social media urging students to take shelter in a safe location.
Once Daniels was caught the lockdown was lifted. Texas Governor Greg Abbott gave his condolences to the family of the officer who had been killed.
