Rajesh and Nupur Talwar have been acquitted of the murder of their only daughter.
The Allahabad High Court said the Talwars did not kill their daughter. They explained that the conviction was based on suspicion and the Talwars must be given the benefit of the doubt. The court also stated that the CBI had failed to prove beyond doubt that the Talwars were guilty.
Aarushi’s grandfather said, “I am thankful to the judiciary for giving a positive verdict… It has been a stressful life since Aarushi Talwar has passed away… I am grateful for the acquittal of Rajesh and Nupur Talwar…Allow us to absorb the news.. We always knew they weren’t guilty.”
The couple has been behind bars since November 2013 and they will finally walk free after the Court dismissed the CBI’s findings that were partly based on suspicion.
The couple will walk free but not without challenges the CBI court will take the High Court’s decision to the Supreme Court. The CBI Court convicted the couple based on circumstantial evidence and demanded capital punishment for the couple. But the court sentenced them to life imprisonment instead.
