Techie Dies in Water Pit — Top Official Removed!

Lucknow/New Delhi — In a swift administrative response to a deeply troubling incident in Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has directed a high-level investigation into the death of a young software engineer that has sparked public outrage and questions over civic safety.

The victim, 27-year-old Yuvraj Mehta, lost his life on the night of January 16 when his SUV veered off a poorly lit road in Sector 150 and plunged into a deep water-filled pit left open at a construction site. Dense fog, lack of warnings or street lighting, and the absence of safety barricades exacerbated the danger, officials and residents say.

Responding to public concern, the Uttar Pradesh government has constituted a three-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) led by senior police and administrative officials to probe the incident. The SIT will submit its detailed report within five days, outlining the circumstances that led to the tragedy and fixing responsibility where required.

In a decisive move to reinforce accountability, the state also removed Lokesh M from his role as CEO of the Noida Authority, placing him on compulsory leave. Authorities earlier dismissed a junior engineer from the Noida Traffic Cell, exposing serious lapses in safety supervision.

The tragedy has reignited calls from local residents for improved infrastructure and better enforcement of safety norms in rapidly developing urban areas. As the SIT begins its probe, public pressure is mounting on officials to prevent such avoidable deaths in the future.
