Kakinada: In the ongoing murder case of Andhra Jyoti journalist Katha Satyanarayana, former Andhra Pradesh Minister Daissetty Raja is now under increasing scrutiny. Raja recently sought anticipatory bail from the High Court, with a verdict expected on November 5.
Journalist Katha Satyanarayana’s Murder in Tuni Mandal
On October 15, 2019, Katha Satyanarayana, aged 47 and a reporter for Andhra Jyoti in Tuni Constituency’s Thondangi Mandal, was attacked while returning home to Annavaram around 7 p.m. Satyanarayana was intercepted by assailants and fatally assaulted. The journalist’s family accused former Minister Daissetty Raja of orchestrating the murder, prompting Tuni Rural Police to register a case against six individuals, including Raja. However, the investigation stalled after Raja became a minister, and his name was removed from the charge sheet in 2023.
Pursuit of Justice
Satyanarayana’s brother, Katha Gopalakrishna, a lawyer, sought justice through the Press Council of India, the NHRC, and the High Court. Public support intensified when political leader Nara Lokesh, during his Yuvagalam padayatra, promised to address the case if his coalition came to power.
As Daissetty Raja’s anticipatory bail verdict approaches, the families of the victim await closure and justice in this prolonged case.
