The United Kingdom (U.K.,) High Court, on the 8th of April, rejected Vijay Mallya’s written application for a plea against his extradition.

On the 9th of December 2018, the Westminster Magistrates’ Court ordered the extradition of Vijay Mallya, based on the charges brought to its notice by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the Enforcement Directorate (ED.)

Mallya had run away from India after defaulting loans over Rs. 9,000 crores from multiple banks in India.

In December 2018, Chief Magistrate Emma Arbuthnot said, Mallya has a series of cases to answer in the Indian courts. With multiple levels of misrepresentations of his financial dealings while heading the now defunct Kingfisher Airlines, Mallya built up a huge debt in India.

With regard to the rejection of Mallya’s plea against his extradition, a spokesperson of the U.K. judiciary said, “The application for permission to appeal was refused by Mr. Justice William Davis on 05/04/2019. The appellant (Mallya) has five business days to apply for oral consideration. If a renewal application is made, it will be listed before a High Court judge and dealt with at a hearing.”

With Mallya’s personal funds decreasing, the situation for the ex Baron of Good Times is getting worse everyday.

The debtors are saying Mallya willfully defaulted on the massive debts made by Kingfisher Airlines and are asking for the 258,000 pounds present in his account right now.

Faced with charges of fraud, money laundering and violation of the Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA,) Mallya’s been wanted for quite a while now.

The rejection of the plea by the U.K., High Court is a massive positive for the Indian courts. The moment Vijay Mallya gets back to the Country, the Supreme Court can start proceedings against the fugitive.

As of now, Mallya does have the option of appealing to the U.K., Supreme Court, which may delay the process of him coming back to India for a bit longer.
