City stakeholders share their vision for a ‘Smart Hyderabad’

Hyderabad: The city stakeholders shared their vision for a ‘Smart Hyderabad’ at a roundtable conference on Tuesday. Many eminent personalities from different fields like politics, science, technology, law, civil services, education, medicine and business expressed their views and opinions for the development of the city. This is the first time in the country to vision for the smart city.

The founder President of smart cities, Ms Karuna Gopal said, “A smart city should be a technology heavy and the cities are all about the sustainability, livability and inclusion”. However, she simply defined a smart city as a good combination of design and technology. Karuna called the delegates and gathered the needs, aspirations and desire for better future of the city.

Union Minister for Labour and employment, Bandaru Dattatreya attended the event and appreciated the visions of stakeholders. He said both the State and Central governments are working towards the city also asked everyone to own the responsibility of the smart city.

The minister said, “Hyderabad is a clean and green city and is also smart by birth in terms of nature.” He urged everyone to protect environment and called it a hub of technology. He said that his vision for a ‘Smart Hyderabad’ is to be a slum free and non-political one with more NGOs and intellectuals.

MLA, Chintal Ramachandra Reddy explained the importance of smart cities and also shared his views on the food management and wastage.

During the meet, he noticed several issues like health care, child labour, skill development and water management and assured his assistance for a futuristic city.

Navinn Mittal, IAS, says that the smart cities should focus on citizens, government, physical environment and eco system. He also added the importance of smart cities in the country.

Prof. Dr. Sunaina Singh, Vice Chancellor of English and Foreign Languages University, said that simple and effective methods should be used to cleanse the city. She added that security, sustainability and uninterrupted power make a smart city.

Ms Vanitha Datla, chairperson of Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), Telangana, shared her vision as a clean and green city. She also explained the importance of good road management system in the smart city.

Advocate Priya Iyengar says that she aspires a best and comfortable city with social technology. She said partnership between civil society and government should be established and every citizen should be accessible to resources.

Being resourceful, corruption free smart Hyderabad, social infrastructure, zero pollution, better regulatory frameworks, employment environment and better use of business are other visions for a ‘Smart Hyderabad’.

Hyderabad is one of the shortlisted cities under the ‘100 Smart Cities Challenge’ launched by the Government of India the next level of the challenge involves submission of a smart city plan, a strategic document that captures the vision of a city, strategy, outcomes and financial investment plan.
