On Sunday a boat full of Rohingya refugees, mostly children, capsized. It has been reported that around 12 people were killed and many more are missing.

The coast guard officials reported the boat was overloaded with nearly 100 people when it sank.

An all night rescue operation was conducted by the Border Guard Bangladesh team. One of the officials, Abdul Jalil reported that the 12 bodies were recovered and “they include 10 children, an elderly woman and a man.”

The local commander of the Border Guard Bangladesh, Lieutenant Colonel Ariful Islam reported that the boat had sunk near Shah Porir Dwip, on the Southern tip of Bangladesh.

Nearly 500,000 Rohingya Muslims have fled Myanmar after the Myanmar forces started brutally shooting at their villages. The Myanmar government has denied the allegations but the thousands of refugees have a different tale to tell.

The Muslims are so desperate to flee that they have been overloading boats just to get as many people out of Myanmar as possible. On 6th September, 46 people died after a boat sunk in the narrow stretch of water between Myanmar and Bangladesh. Among the 46 people, 19 were children 18 women and 9 men.
