Munich: The German train attack by an Afghan teen made headlines on Monday. The 17-year-old, who is an Afghan asylum seeker, attacked the passengers on the train with a knife and an axe on Monday evening. At least 5 people were injured and 14 others went into a state of shock. However, the police managed to shoot the attacker and neutralized him.
On Tuesday, the attack was claimed by the terror group Islamic State. It was posted on the group’s Aamaq news agency today. The statement says that the attacker was a member of the Islamic State group and carried out the attack in response to the militant group’s calls to attack countries that are members of the anti-IS coalition.
Mr. Joachim Herrmann, the interior minister of Bavaria, said that investigators found a handpainted ISIS flag in his room when they conducted a raid. According to eye witnesses, the attacker also shouted “Allahu Akbar” during the attack.
