Ecuador Earthquake: Death Toll Rises To 413

The death toll of Ecuador earthquake climbed to 413 on Monday. A spokesperson of the State Department, John Kirby said, “We are aware of the death of one U.S. citizen and have been in touch with their family and we will continue working with Ecuadorian authorities going forward.”

The strong earthquake with magnitude 7.8 hit the South American country’s northwest coast on Saturday at 6:58 p.m. Many people lost their lives in and around the city of Portoviejo. The rescue work is underway around the clock. Many people were injured and also trapped in the wreckage of several collapsed buildings.

Nearly 10,000 soldiers and 4,600 police officials are working at the affected areas. Many hospitals and shelters were also set up by the officials.
