South Korea Registers First Zika Virus Case

Seoul: On Tuesday, the first case of Zika virus has been registered in the South Korea. The Korea Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) announced the news.

According to officials, a 43-year-old man was tested positive for the virus. It is heard that between February 17 and March 11, he had made business trips to Brazil. And from March 16, he is suffering with fever and muscle ache. At present, he was being treated in Gwangju city.

According to the Yonhap news agency, South Korea said the infected man had been quarantined and his movements tracked since returning home.

The deadly Zika virus has spread rapidly in Brazil and the Americas, and is suspected of causing birth defects. It is risky for pregnant women as it is thought to be linked to a rare birth defect, microcephaly.
