Rock and roll musician Tom Petty passed away on Monday after a cardiac arrest. His family confirmed his death in a statement, “On behalf of the Tom Petty family we are devastated to announce the untimely death of our father, husband, brother, leader and friend Tom Petty.”
The musician was rushed to Los Angeles hospital where he died, the rocker was 66 years old.
Tony Dimitriades the manager of Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers said in a statement, “He suffered cardiac arrest at his home in Malibu in the early hours of this morning and was taken to UCLA Medical Center but could not be revived. He died peacefully at 8:40 P.M., PT surrounded by family, his bandmates and friends.”
Tom Petty was known for his hit songs like ‘Free Fallin” and ‘American Girl.’ Just a week ago Petty wrapped up a tour that marked 40 years with his band.
Petty’s passion for music was pure and in an interview in 2007 he said he loved music just as much as it loved him. The legendary musician was quoted saying, “Music, as far as I have seen in the world so far, is the only real magic that I know. There is something really honest and clean and pure and it touches you in your heart.”
