A video went viral on social media from Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh. The video shows an IPS officer Charu Nigam bursting into tears after a Bharatiya Janata Party MLA insulted her verbally.
The BJP MLA, Radha Mohan Agarwal in a fit of rage begins yelling at the young woman officer in the video.
In Koilhwa village, the incident took place while people were protestingthe sale of illegal liquor. Initially, the police were ensuring the protest was being carried out peacefully. But the protesters began pelting the officials with stones that led the police to carry out a lathi-charge to ensure law and order. A few women were also injured in this clash between the police and protesters.
The BJP MLA jumped into the chaos and started an argument with Charu Nigam. While the IPS officer is trying to explain the situation to the MLA. The MLA disregarded her and told her he would only speak to a senior and repeatedly asked her to ‘not cross limits.’
The video caught the MLA yelling and saying, “I am not speaking to you. You don’t try to tell me anything. Keep quiet. Do not cross your limits.”
The IPS officer told the MLA, “I am in-charge. The law and order were being breached. I know what I am doing.”
The MLA explained the reason for his rage as the police were unnecessarily using force on the protesters.
“We are against the operation of liquor shops. People were peacefully protesting against the liquor shop, but the woman police officer forcibly removed the protesters and while doing so, she hit a woman and dragged an 80 year old man. This simply cannot be tolerated,” claimed the MLA.
