Eluru: The investigation into the chilling “dead body in a wooden box” case that shocked West Godavari district has been concluded, as confirmed by Superintendent of Police (SP) Nayeem Asmi. Speaking at a media conference, SP Asmi provided key details about the investigation that unraveled the sinister conspiracy behind the incident.

The case came to light on December 19, when a dead body was discovered in a wooden box in Yendagandi village located at Undi Mandal. Upon receiving information, the police immediately launched an investigation into the matter. SP Asmi revealed that the deceased, identified as Parlayya, had been murdered due to a property dispute involving Sridhar Varma, his second wife Revathi, and Varma’s girlfriend Sushma.

The investigation found that a longstanding quarrel existed between Revathi and Tulsi, the daughters of Rangaraju, whose property became the central focus of the crime. Rangaraju owned a 2.5-acre farm, land, and gold, which Sridhar Varma allegedly coveted. In a bid to intimidate Tulsi and secure the property, Varma devised a plan to send a dead body to her, hoping to scare her into submission. Parlayya, a vulnerable man with no family to care for him, was murdered at Sushma’s farm. He was tied up and strangled while intoxicated. Varma had initially planned to kill another person, but Parlayya became the unfortunate victim.

The body was placed in the wooden box and sent to Tulsi’s house, where she, terrified, reported it to the police. During the investigation, Varma’s involvement in the conspiracy was revealed. The accused, Sridhar Varma, was apprehended near Machilipatnam. Varma confessed that he, along with his accomplices, had killed Parlayya as part of a scheme to lay claim to Rangaraju’s property and secure Tulsi’s share.

The investigation, which involved over 100 police personnel, has now concluded, with all key suspects arrested. SP Asmi stated that the case had been meticulously investigated, and the efforts of the police had led to a successful resolution of this shocking crime.
