Little did they know that this moment would lead to the emergence of one of India’s finest spin all-rounders, Ravichandran Ashwin.
Ashwin, who has now taken over 500 wickets in Test cricket, possesses not just the skills of a fine off-spinner, but also the ability to wield the bat when the team needs it most. Known for his astute understanding of match situations, Ashwin uses his height and extra bounce to trouble batsmen, particularly excelling in his ability to extract turn and bounce. Overall, he has played 287 matches across all formats and has claimed 765 wickets, ranking second only to Anil Kumble (956) among India’s all-time wicket-takers.
