The Special Terrorism and Disruptive Activities Act (TADA) court declared Abu Salem and Mustafa Dossa guilty of criminal conspiracy charges. Also, the other gangsters, Firoze Khan, Karimullah Khan, Taher Merchant were also convicted for conspiracy charges framed against them.
Another accused Abdul Qayyum was convicted under Section 3 of TADA Act. However, he was acquitted of all other charges. The Mumbai TADA court said that the prosecution failed to prove charges of conspiracy against Qayyum. All seven were acquitted for charges of waging war against the country.
The next hearing date was given by the court as for June 20. On this date, they will decide the date for argument on the quantum of sentence.
The accused were arrested between 2003 and 2010. The accused were Dossa, Salem, Firoze Khan, Taher Merchant, Riyaz Siddiqui and Abdul Qayyum. They were tried separately by the court from the 123 other accused. They multiple charges against them included criminal conspiracy, waging war against the Government of India and murder.
On March 12, 1993, 257 people died while 713 others were injured after a series of bomb blasts in Mumbai City. Fugitive Dawood Ibrahim and Tiger Memon and his brother Yakub Memon were also accused of being the prime conspirators in the case.
