Vanteru Pratap Reddy, a Congress member, attempted suicide in order to prevent the police from conducting a search at his residence in Kompally, Hyderabad, on Monday night.

According to sources, a Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) leader complained to the Election Commission (EC) against Pratap Reddy and his followers, stating, they are illegally distributing money to the public at Pratap Reddy’s residence in Kompally.

Directed by the EC, Padmaja, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) of Balanagar, with her team, led the search at Reddy’s residence.

The police tried to convince Mr. Reddy to let them follow the instructions of the EC. In order to prevent the police from raiding his property, Mr. Reddy later asked his followers to bring petrol and doused the liquid on himself. However, the police stopped him from burning himself. The police then searched Pratap Reddy’s residence, but didn’t find any money or suspicious items at the residence.

The police arrested Mr. Reddy, but let him go, as he complained about low blood pressure and asked for medical treatment. He was later admitted to a hospital.

Mr. Reddy alleged the TRS chief, K. Chandrashekar Rao (KCR,) for instigating the police to harass him, as he was giving KCR tough competition.

Mr. Reddy was nominated for the Gajwel constituency and will contest against KCR in the upcoming Telangana Assembly elections.

The Telangana Assembly elections are scheduled on the 7th of December and the results will be declared on the 11th of December.
