Guntur: Students of Acharya Nagarjuna University staged a protest on Friday night, alleging unhygienic food served at the hostel mess, including incidents of worms in meals. Despite repeated complaints, authorities reportedly failed to address the issue, prompting students to organize a dharna at the hostel. The incident has drawn sharp criticism, with the Education Department ordering a full-scale inquiry and recommending immediate suspension of the warden and action against the food contractor if negligence is proven.

Frog in Sambar Sparks Outrage
The situation escalated after three female students reportedly found a frog in their sambar during lunch on Friday. When they brought it to the warden’s notice, they were allegedly silenced and served tomato curry instead. This sparked outrage among students, who later discovered worms in both breakfast and dinner, prompting a mass protest.

Authorities Take Action
Following the uproar, corrective measures were initiated. The university registrar personally oversaw breakfast service, while the Guntur RDO inspected the mess and expressed anger over the unclean water plant. Students criticized the administration for failing to provide clean meals despite hefty fees paid by their families.

The protest culminated in a massive demonstration outside the Vice-Chancellor’s office, demanding immediate justice and accountability from the authorities.
