Amaravati: As Andhra Pradesh prepares to present its full budget in the second week of November, officials from the Finance Department are working diligently to finalize its contents. Minister of Legislative Affairs and Finance, Payyavula Keshav, is coordinating with officials to set the dates for the budget sessions, while Legislative Assembly Speaker Ayyannapatra is holding discussions with the Finance Department to iron out details.
Earlier in February, the Jagan government presented a vote-on-account budget due to the upcoming state elections, with a total of Rs. 2,86,389 crore and approval for Rs. 1,09,052.34 crore covering April to July 2024. Following the formation of the new government in June, a second provisional budget of Rs. 1,29,972.97 crore was approved by the Governor for state expenses from August to November.
Focus on Welfare Schemes
The new NDA-led government, as part of its “Super Six” promises, is prioritizing massive welfare schemes. Already, pensions for senior citizens and others have been increased. The Finance Department is working on further welfare implementations, which could cost an additional Rs. 20,000 crore. A free gas cylinder scheme is also expected to be rolled out in November, with its funding details to be outlined in the upcoming budget.
Full-Scale Budget at Rs. 2.90 Lakh Crore
The budget for the entire fiscal year is expected to be around Rs. 2.90 lakh crore. Major allocations will focus on the development of Amaravati, the Polavaram project, and road infrastructure. Funds will also be earmarked for centrally-sponsored schemes and state contributions, with about 28 programs set to receive attention.
Finance Secretary officials are currently reviewing proposals from various departments, with ministerial meetings scheduled next to finalize the budget.
