Srikakulam: Andhra Pradesh Director General of Police (DGP) Dwaraka Tirumala Rao expressed concerns over the increasing cybercrime cases in the state, even as other types of crimes have shown a decline. Speaking to the media, the DGP emphasized the importance of raising public awareness to combat cybercrimes.
“Cybercrime is a nationwide issue, and we are working on measures to control it. Plans are underway to establish a cybercrime police station in every district and engage experts in this field. Public awareness is crucial. People should avoid paying money to strangers over calls,” he said. He also highlighted the alarming rise in sexual assaults against children and the elderly, calling it a societal failure.
On the drug menace, the DGP revealed that a five-member cabinet committee has been formed to eradicate ganja in the state. The police have launched “Sankalpa,” an anti-drug campaign, focusing on educating students. Additionally, 37,000 kg of ganja will be destroyed in Anakapalli’s Paravada district on Wednesday.
To enhance crime control, the DGP announced plans to install one lakh CCTV cameras across the state by March 1, with support from donors and citizens. He also assured transparent policing and continued efforts to curb Maoist activities in Andhra Pradesh.
