Amaravati: In a significant move towards a sustainable energy future, Andhra Pradesh Power Generation Corporation Limited (APGENCO) and National Hydroelectric Power Corporation Limited (NHPC) have signed a landmark Joint Venture agreement. The collaboration, overseen by Hon’ble Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, Shri Nara Chandrababu Naidu, aims to accelerate the development of renewable energy projects in the state.

The agreement focuses on establishing large-scale solar power plants and pumped storage projects, marking a significant step in achieving Andhra Pradesh’s renewable energy goals. Key officials, including Shri Gottipati Ravi Kumar (Energy Minister), Shri K. Vijayanand (Energy Secretary), and Shri K. V. N. Chakradhar Babu (MD of APGENCO), were present during the signing.

Key Highlights:

  1. APGENCO plans to expand its current installed capacity by an additional 8,560 MW of renewable energy.
  2. NHPC is working to develop 46,400 MW of green energy across India.
  3. Andhra Pradesh identified 36 locations for pumped storage projects with a potential capacity of 39,000 MW.
  4. APGENCO will establish 11,200 MW of solar power to support its 6,020 MW pumped storage projects.
  5. The JV will develop 5,070 MW across five pumped storage projects.

Chief Minister Naidu expressed his commitment to renewable energy, calling the JV a critical milestone in combating climate change and securing Andhra Pradesh’s energy future.
