Bengaluru: A special court in Bengaluru has directed the transfer of late Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa’s assets to the Tamil Nadu government. Judge H. A. Mohan issued an order instructing authorities to complete the handover process on February 14 and 15.

The assets to be transferred include 1,562 acres of land, 27 kg of gold and diamond jewelry, over 10,000 sarees, more than 750 pairs of sandals, luxury watches, and other valuables. These items were previously claimed by J. Deepak and J. Deepa, Jayalalithaa’s relatives, as their legal inheritance. However, the Karnataka High Court recently dismissed Deepa’s petition, clearing the way for the Tamil Nadu government to take possession.

At the time of acquisition by the Tamil Nadu government nearly a decade ago, the estimated value of Jayalalithaa’s assets was ₹913 crore. However, due to appreciation, the current market value is believed to have exceeded ₹4,000 crore. The Karnataka government is set to hand over all official documents related to the properties in compliance with the court order.
